The continued refurbishments works at Whipsnade Zoo saw the main restaurant in the centre of the Zoo undergo a full front of house update, with a complete redesign of the look & feel as well as operational change. For the design inspiration we drew this from the new name ‘Base Camp’. By using a feature pattern symbolising the cracks in logs in a camp fire and the use of orange tones within the scheme brought points of interest. The design & build works involved removing the traditional servery counters to open up the whole space for more seating and create a table service restaurant. The servery area was transformed with the introduction of a hot pass through to the kitchen, giving customers and staff vision of the chefs. With the new service style a bespoke drinks bar with feature cladding and gantry was designed to serve customers. We painted the seating area ceiling black to transform it into a light and welcoming space.
